The Canada Council for the Arts awards a number of prizes and fellowships that recognize excellence in various disciplines of the arts. The British Columbia Arts Council awards scholarships for individual artists of many disciplines, and also provides financial assistance to various types of arts programs, groups and initiatives. Arts Now is part of 2010 Legacies Now, which creates sustainable legacies that will benefit all British Columbians as a result of hosting the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. Arts Now exists to strengthen and enhance the creative capacity of individuals, organizations and communities throughout the province. This work will be done through a combination of contribution programs and targeted activities developed in consultation with the arts and culture community. There are four funded programs - Catalyst, Creative Communities, Explorations and Innovations.

CARFAC British Columbia

Carfac BC was incorporated in 1990 and functions as a volunteer, artist-run organization on behalf of its membership. It aspires to be the primary vehicle in BC through which visual and media artists may obtain information and practical advice to support their professional practices. There are now over 400 members in BC.

The primary goals of the organization are to:

  • Assist BC visual artists to advance their professional status and economic potential;
  • Provide informational services to assist in the development of the visual artist and the visual arts as a profession;
  • Research, publish and otherwise provide educational information for the development of the visual arts profession and for the benefit of all Canadians interested in the visual arts;
  • Advocate the role and value of the visual arts in BC and beyond;
  • Assist and encourage members of the visual arts profession to make individual and group contributionsto the growth and development of the visual arts in Canada

The Spirit of BC Arts Fund assists arts and cultural organizations to realize creative projects that contribute to the development of arts and culture in British Columbia.

The Vancouver Foundation is a philanthropic non-governmental community foundation which operates primarily as a permanent collection of endowed funds. Income derived from the investment of the pooled capital of Vancouver Foundation's endowments is distributed to support the activities of charitable organizations across British Columbia. The Foundation is incorporated by a Special Act of the Legislature of British Columbia and is registered with Revenue Canada as a public charity. The Victoria Foundation is the second oldest community foundation in Canada. Our purpose is to build endowment funds through the gifts of visionary donors in the community. ArtStarts: Artists in Education (AIE)

For more than 25 years, the Artists in Education (AIE) funding program has supported the arts in schools right across the province by providing matching funds for performances, workshops and residencies. AIE has introduced hundreds of thousands of children and youth to traditional and cultural events in a multidisciplinary range of dance, theatre, music, literary, media and visual arts. Director's Guild of Canada - Kick Start Program
The Kick Start program is an initiative by the Directors Guild of Canada: BC and British Columbia Film, with the participation of Rainmaker Digital Pictures, Post Modern Sound, Finale Editworks & Western Post, to provide emerging filmmakers from British Columbia with a calling card film that will assist them in pursuing a directing career. Successful applicants will have demonstrated talent and imagination along with the requisite craft skills and ability to meet the challenges of directing.

RBC AFTER-SCHOOL GRANT OPPORTUNITIES
If you wish to be considered for an After-School Grant in 2006 (for the 2006-2007 school year), we would be pleased to let you know when we are accepting applications. Register online at http://www.rbc.com/community/donations/after-school/selection.html

Charities requesting funding should offer activities such as computer instruction, sports, literacy tutoring, music and art lessons, nutrition guidance, and help with homework. To be eligible for an RBC After School Grant you must be a registered charity. To learn about receiving your charitable registration number please refer to the Canada Revenue Agency.
RBC believes that these activities provide children with opportunities to gain an area of competence outside of academics and ultimately benefit their self-esteem. It committed up to $600,000 in funding for 2004 through the RBC Foundation.
